About Toronto Up Close
A free website that turns the City of Toronto's open data into plain answers about your street, your neighbourhood and your ward.
Who runs it
- One volunteer in Toronto. It is not run, paid for or endorsed by the City of Toronto, the Toronto Police Service or the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).
- No ads, no accounts, no cookies. See how we handle your information.
- It stands on other people's work. Where another Toronto project does something well, we link to it. See other Toronto data projects.
Where the numbers come from
- The City's open data portal, open.toronto.ca, copied every night. Each number links to the City's page for it, and how current each source is shows the day each was last updated.
- Police figures are reports made to Toronto Police, not proven crimes. Small numbers change a lot by chance, so each one comes with a likely range. We never grade or score areas on police data.
- Rankings say "most" and "fewest", never "best" or "worst". A count per 1,000 residents says how much of something an area has, not whether it is a good place.
Before you rely on it
This is an unofficial volunteer project.
It is not run by or endorsed by the City of Toronto, the Toronto Police Service or TRCA. Figures
come from open data and may be late, incomplete or wrong. Nothing here is legal, planning, real estate
or financial advice. Check with the City before you act.
The site is offered as it is. We work to keep it right, but we cannot promise that any figure is complete or current, and we are not responsible for decisions made using it. The City's own page, linked from each figure, is the record.
Corrections and takedowns
- A number looks wrong? Report a problem. Every fix is listed there.
- Something here is about you or your home and you want it removed? Tell us. We reply within 2 business days, and we hide the item while we look into it.
- We do not set out to show anyone's personal details. Where the City's files carry them, we leave them out. If we missed one, tell us and it comes down.
Accessibility
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA: every page works with a keyboard, a screen reader and zoom, and colour is never the only way something is shown. If something does not work for you, report it and we will fix it.
