The City of Toronto's data
Almost everything here, including the police figures, comes from the City's open data portal under the City's licence. As it asks, every page says:
Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Toronto.
The licence does not let anyone suggest the City endorses them, so this site never uses the City's name, crest or logo as its own.
- Police figures come from the Toronto Police Service tables published on the City's portal, under the same licence. We do not use the police service's own data portal, which has its own terms.
- A few City datasets list no licence. Their pages under All data show what the City published, as it is.
Other sources
- TRCA flood plain and regulated area maps. Contains information made available under the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)'s Open Data Licence v 1.0. The maps are general guides and do not show exact limits.
- School board wards are read from the City's 2026 school board reference chart.
- Background map tiles are © Esri.
- The Inter typeface is by The Inter Project Authors, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. A copy of the licence comes with the font files.
Reusing our work
- Our spreadsheets (the numbers we work out for each neighbourhood and ward, on the spreadsheets page) are yours to reuse under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Credit "Toronto Up Close" and keep the City's licence line above, because the numbers are built from its data.
- The site's code is open source under the MIT License.
